The Chris DeLuca Newsletter

I just moved into a new apartment, and I’ve been building a lot of IKEA furniture. I just finish a bed frame and dresser, both made of cheap raw pine, and stained them with Mr. Cornwall’s Super Duper Everlasting Oil, which is food safe and expensive. An exorcise in contrasts.

I’m 40 years old, and this is the first time I’m ever living alone. I’m really enjoying being the only person I need to consult in decorating the apartment. The space is still in progress, but it’s already molded to me.

The House by the Cemetery, 1981 - ★★★½

My favorite part was when the real estate agent drives over a grave and goes, “damn tombstone!”

Finished reading: Joyful Recollections of Trauma by Paul Scheer 📚

What a delightful read. As someone who still struggles with childhood trauma, I’m really inspired by how Paul has grown as a person and comes up with love for those who caused him pain. It’s also very funny.

I Spit on Your Grave, 1978

Less a movie and more an encapsulation of toxic masculinity via 70s grindhouse. I know it’s important historically but god damn you know?
