The Chris DeLuca Newsletter

I’ve kept a haphazard journal since I was a teenager. It’s helpful to write it, but not that useful to save. I got rid of lots of notebooks last year. Now, I’m writing digitally. I don’t like it as much, but I can save it forever. Cool?

Dad Reviews Robert Redford's Career 🍿

My dad texted out of the blue, this time about Robert Redford.

In honor of Robert Redford’s passing, I’m watching Barefoot in the Park. Redford is paired with the one and only Jane Fonda. The movie is from 1967. Rose [my grandmother] took me to see it then at Radio City Music Hall. That was a thing. She took me every year for a few years. A
Nice memory. BTW I don’t remember anything of the movie except the opening scene.

I hadn’t seen the movie, so I asked what the opening scene was.

A horse and carriage ride through Central Park. Jane and Robert had just gotten married. Yeah Kane did a great job with the wife character.

Great, I knew the opening scene in vivid detail, but nothing of the film overall. I could look up a synopsis, but I didn’t want to see the whole plot clinically laid out. Instead, I asked if there were any other memorable scenes.

Yeah after they find out they are incompatible she asks for a divorce six days into the marriage.

Perfect. I gotta go see Barefoot in the Park now.

I actually like a lot of the new Liquid Glass apple redesign, but the expected readability issues are very much present. 💽

A smartphone screen displays the time as 11:22 and shows battery, Wi-Fi, and cellular signal icons along with some text about layout positioning in the DOM. The time and battery icons overlay the content with a very light background behind it, creating small contrast. It’s hard to read.

The proposed CSS reading-flow property seems very useful—it’s challenging to create complex layouts that also have good reading order for screen readers, and that usually results in jumping through markup hoops. I’m hopeful reading flow would make those non-issues. 💽

I donated some shorts to the local thrift store, and walked out with Coffee and Cigarettes and Season 4 of The Simpsons on DVD, and the Choose Your Own Adventure Tattoo of Death. Not bad.

I culled a lot of books off my reading list, and added books I already own. The list is now longer.
