Went to the NYC People’s March yesterday. A lot smaller than last time around, but nice to be part of that positive energy. Representative of the crowd, I overheard one older woman say, “Oh, there’s a young person” 🙃

Great read. How a Mole Infiltrated the Highest Ranks of American Militias — ProPublica.

A well written, interesting article from Emily Gorcenski arguing that conceiving of the truth as a process instead of a fixed point is anti-fascist. You’ll need to read to the end to see the whole arc.

…the American right cannot be engaged as an intellectual exercise. They are not opponents in a game of chess playing by accepted rules. They are seeking to define the colors of the squares and the rules by which the pieces move. While you’re playing the board, they’re playing the rulebook.

Great list. 2025: Keep democracy alive. FrameLab New Year’s resolutions

Authoritarians want you to feel powerless because it makes their work easier. Courage, faith, and optimism are essential. Fascism feeds on cynicism and pessimism. Starve it.

Love rob reich The 10 Biggest Myths About Our Economy.

Well, fuck that 🇺🇸

I’ve been collecting myself since the election. This blog isn’t going to turn into a negative spiral, or focus on just politics. I’m still going to post the same silly stuff, but I am processing this, and I will be speaking out.

It’s devastating. The election results aren’t a shock, but they’re gut wrenching. Not because he’s changed, we know who he is, but because we knowingly chose him. Again.

I’m sad and angry and scared. People love a little fascist flirt.

Well, fuck that.

Make no mistake, the man will try to seize our democracy. And when your life isn’t immediately wrecked, maybe you’ll let his hate mongering and naked power grabs slide. That’s what they want.

Well, fuck that.

You don’t know what you have until it’s gone. Look at opinion polls on abortion before and after Roe was overturned. That’s just the beginning. Project 2025 is a promise.

Well, fuck that.

If you think he can’t get away with it, if you think it can’t happen here, if you think it won’t effect you, if you think all these warnings are a bit dramatic, and maybe it’ll be bad, but fine, really, in the end, some good will come of it too, I’m sure, if you think a strongman will solve your problems, then you haven’t been paying attention.

Well, fuck that.

He can get away with it, and it can happen here. The thing that can make it less dramatic is you. And me. Us. We still have a democracy, or some semblance of one. It takes we the people to keep it.

What fascists want is to keep folks ignorant and scared and alienated. That keeps them in power and their pockets lined, at all of our expense.

Well, fuck that.

Get involved in your local community, support your loved ones, volunteer, teach, make art, get out of the house and be with the teaming masses. Humanity is messy and flawed and you will be disappointed and exasperated.

Good.

You’ll also be inspired and filled up. Connection with each other is ultimately all we have. Keep your joy. Fascists want to steal that shit.

Well, fuck that.

If you’re a piece of shit, they put you in charge. 🇺🇸

An "I Voted Early NYC 2024" sticker resting on top of a wood surface, along with the vote branded pen I used.

It’s the first day of early voting in New York City, and the turnout was healthy. I waited in line about a half hour, which I was happy to do.

If you haven’t noticed, our democracy is on the ballot. Proud to have voted for Kamala Harris. 🇺🇸

I got this political ad texted to me: “AMISH for Trump”. Who do I tell that they’re barking up the wrong tree, twice? 🇺🇸

If you don’t vote, apologize to democracy, you putz. 🇺🇸

The Future is Analog (if you can afford it), by Maroussia Lévesque, explores the “analog privilege” of economic elites to escape the automation and A.I. they apply to everyone else.

Today is National Register to Vote Day. Please, register to vote. And then, you know, vote. It matters. A lot. 🇺🇸

I do not say this lightly: the Supreme Court’s decision on presidential immunity paves the way for a conservative dictatorship. This was deliberate. Do not pre-agree to fascism.

Citizens should not obey in advance. Much of fascism is a bluff — look at our loyal cult, listen to our outrageous language, heed our threats of violence, we are inevitable!

The crucial thing is the individual decision to act, along with others, for four months, a little something each day, regardless of the atmospherics and the polls and the media and the moods.

Resist. 🇺🇸
